Stress Ahead
As you all probably know, I am applying to medical schools. That is stressful by itself. However my longtime girlfriend (we will call her E) is also applying to dental schools at the same time. We have different state residencies, and although we are both competitive at a lot of schools, tuition prices have to be considered. It may come down to, how much money is living in the same city worth? How much or little debt is worth 4 years together or apart? Also what if E loves a school and I don’t, or vice-versa?
I love her, so obviously the thought of 4 years long distance absolutely sucks. I am sure others have been in this position, and if you read the blog, I would love some comments or suggestions.

Hey!
As a fellow med school applicant for the upcoming/current cycle, I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now. I’m in a similar situation with my BF of 3.5 years, but things are slightly more flexible for us. He currently has a full time job in my state of residency, so as long as I can get into my state schools, we will both be able to live together and have a reasonable commute to school/work. If I don’t get into my state schools, then obviously we will have a problem, but I live in the northeast where there are so many schools nearby, and so chances are we won’t have to be too far apart.
No advice to you, except to say that I relate to your concerns, and wish you and E good luck in the cycle!!!
I appreciate the comment, I am sure there are quite a few people in my situation. I hope and think that her and I will be OK, but it just adds another truck full of stress to the whole process. I want us to be where we are supposed to be, and if that is different places, so be it. Good luck with your BF, I am sure you guys will be great.

I can totally understand that stress. I am currently applying to medical school and my boyfriend is applying to Dental school. We met at Orientation day of our undergrad and have been together for 4 years now. We are both lucky to live in Florida where there are 3 schools that offer a medical school and a dental school. I have no advise for you but I know that it probably helps to know that someone else is in the same spot as you. Good luck to you both!
Hi Amber,
This was actually last cycle, and everything ended up working out. Thank you for the kind words though. Once that first acceptance from a mutual school comes, everything else Senior year is that much better. I wish you two the best of luck, let me know how it goes.
